Question Racor filter/seperator retrofit

I got a retrofit filter/seperator for my 6.9L off the web, but for some reason no one around here knows shat the heck I'm talking about when I ask fo a replacement element.

The part number is IN F811, but the guys at Lordco and NAPA say its not even a racor number, has any one else had this problem? Is there a different PN in canada???

Also, would any of you know if a fuel filter that is listed for a 7.3L IDI would work?

Any tips or leads much appreaciated, my truck needs a new filter sooner rather than later.

Hmmm...22 views and no repies....

Now when I said no one around ""here"" knows what I'm talking about I didn't mean here as in FTE, I meant where I live, hope I didn't offend any one lol .

Seriously though, is any one else running the retrofit from dieselman's webstore?

I can still get a replacement offof several sources on the web, but I'd like to avoid spending more on shipping and brokerage (AKA free trade surcharge) than on the filter itself.

see if you can send me a pic of it and I may be able to help you out. I have a Parker dealer around the corner and they may be able to help. If it's the same as mine I can tell you the Fram replacement filter number.

I hope this is enough:

If not, I can try to post some pics of the one in my truck, I have to learn to post photos anyway.

thanks

David85,
That looks exactly like the fuel filter on my '93. I see from your first post that it's a retrofit kit for the newer style filter to the older 6.9s. I'll bet if you have them pull you a filter for a 7.3 that it'll fit right on there.

Thats kindof what I was hoping, maybe I'll just try that. I'm 99% sure the top of the filter will match the OEM filter head, but I'm not sure about the bottom.

Brimmstone, the filter I have mounts in the same place as the stock fuel filter, it just has a drain bowl that mounts in the bottom for the integrated seperator.

Try NAPA 3217 or look at the Wix website that number is 33217. The picture you link to is a standard 7.3 filter. Don

Well that takes a load off, thanks Don, I'll just ask for a 7.3 style filter next time I'm in town.

Well, I bought a 7.3 style filter and it is the same filter, but it did not fit the filter head of the 6.9. So I just converted to the newer style by getting a filter assembly from a wrecked 7.3, which was a strait accross swap, which I probably should have done instead of getting the racor kit, live and learn.

Did you think the Racor filter worked OK? Is it supposed to be better than the stock 6.9 filter? Is the 7.3 design an upgrade from the 6.9 style?

Thanks,

It seemed to work just fine, but I won't be put in a position to have to order a replacement off the internet and pay more than the filter is worth in shipping and customs everytime I have to replace it.

The big deal with the racor kit is that it wraps the fuel filter and water seperator into one unit and eliminates one more potential air leak. But since the 7.3L IDI has a nearly identical system, I'd rather do that and know that a replacement is waiting for me at the parts store 5 min away.

My advice would be to just get a filter assembly off a 1988-1994 ford diesel from a wrecker, it was a bolt on swap for me. If you want your WIF light to work, you will still have to wire in a sensor module (which I had from the racor kit), but truth be told, we have 3 diesels in the family, and none of us ever had to drain any water in some 3 years now. Fueling up at a reputable cardlock and keeping the tank full seems to help.

I've used the drain a couple of times, but only pure diesel ever came out.

85Dave,

thanks for the heads up & very insightful reply. I am new to the 6.9 & even to the Ford diesel experience. I have a lot to learn. I'm on here to ask lots of questions & learn from the long time NA owners. You guys all rock!
