Abe, The F7-F8 and COEs share the same wider grill. I read somewhere years ago that the F7-F8 trucks didn't always have crank holes in the grill. The COE should have a crank hole since it uses the same engines as the conventional trucks F1-F6.

I consulted my book of words and numbers and couldn't find p/n 8204 for the Q and QH trucks, so speculation prevails imo. However, it does for all other trucks, and all have the crank hole. Only Number Dummy knows for sure.

All COE's with stainless moldings came with the crank hole in bottom molding. That grille came from an F-7 or F-8, because they used an intermediate bar to cover the hole. I guess once the bars became optional in the middle of '48, Ford decided it wasn't that important to hide the hole on Big Job installations, even though the hole was only for COE's.

1954 Big Job chassis parts catalog shows Grille Assembly 7Q 8204B, less mouldings. 7Q 8334 Intermediate moulding (4 required) is also listed. The 8345 bottom mldg is not shown in this printing of the Big Job catalog, but is referenced in the standard CPC for the COE's as 7W 8345.
