new 18' F150

Hey all, I just got my new 18' F150 SCrew Fx4 3.5L EB yesterday and am looking at getting a boat in the next week or two. So my question is this, does anyone here know how bad it is to tow with a new truck before it's broke in ? I've read not to tow before I have at least 1,000 miles on it. Thought I've seen people out there on the road towing with brand new trucks that still have the temp sticker from the dealer on it. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I know that I won't have 1000 miles on it in a week or two. Thanks guys.

Well, its certainly preferable to put some miles on a new vehicle before heavily loading the driveline. That said, I towed my 9K 24' enclosed into the dealer with my '07 F350 6.0 and that afternoon left, towing the same trailer with my new '17 F250 6.7. It was 900 miles and two mountain ranges to get home.

The thing to remember is not to heavily stress the engine. It needs some time to break in the various moving parts. So just take it easy, use light throttle and stay off the boost until you have some miles on it.

This was my first fuel stop on the way home, about 400 miles after leaving the dealer.

I drove like crazy to get the 1000 miles before towing. I heard it was to heat cycle the rear axle gears.

no full throttle stops and vary the speed a bit.

Fleet owners put them to work right away.
