Thank y'all for the information contained within this thread. Good read, all of it.
After weighing the options I decided to go with the AutoEnginuity Total Ford Scan Tool Package Enhanced Bundle SP03. Bought it from Riff Raff this morning, after receiving the 411 from a tech support rep yesterday. It is reported to work for my 7.3L and also for my CVPIs, so this was the best option for me. I was also glad to see that there isn't a license key involved, so you can install it on whatever laptop you'd like. I specifically inquired about that product aspect because I plan to upgrade my laptop sometime during the summer and didn't want to have to deal with getting a new key, new PITA install, etc.
Anyway thanks,
Jerry
Jerry,
How did this reader work out for you? I'm considering one but I'm a little concerned about how hard it will be to use. I'm reasonably tech-savvy but I'm not interested in spending a lot of time working thru all the options and details.

Auto Enginuity isn't all the rave it used to be. ForScan and TorquePro are what most of us are using, I'm on ForScan with an iPad. If you are on Android you can get a bluetooth adapter, if you're on iOS you need a WIFI adapter. ForScan is fairly easy to use and I think it's free for the Android, it costs about $5 for the iOS version.
Im curious about the cable one, do you know if i can check cylinder contribution with it? Right now I'm running one of those cheap OBD elm one with torque pro everything seems to work fine with it but I am looking for an obd reader that will give me a little more, like cylinder contribution. If not, is there one anyone recommends aside from an actual dealership one that will allow for this? Thanks in advance

I use it with forscan and torque and it's done everything I've needed it to so far. You can get a sub adapter for your phone (if you have android) and use it with that too. I use my phone, tablet, and laptop depending on where I'm at. The software it comes with is ok, but forscan is better

I was able to do a buzz test with one of those $5 elm 23 ones on Ford sync lite
=guitarpicr;17822983]Empire - That looks possible too. Will that do a buzz test by chance? Thanks for the info.[/QUOTE]
