1997 F-250/350/Super Duty Workshop Manual
HPOP is the High Pressure Oil Pump. It is the pump that supplies oil to the injectors
LPOP. Low Pressure Oil Pump. It provides to the rest of the motor. This is the normal pump that most other engines have

Diesel Leak
I have a '97 F250 HD 7.3 and am having a nasty fuel leak coming off the back of the motor. There is a small amount of diesel standing on the manifold and can't locate a leak on top of the motor. When the truck is running the fuel is pouring off the back of the motor more on the passenger side, just behind the oil pan and in front of the transmission. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi. I'm pretty new to the 7.3 and am learning as I go. I've been watching my valley because it is where a number of causes of leaks originate. Your fuel filter housing is prone to leak where there are sensors and fuel lines. The fuel lines to and from the fuel pump leak. The return lines from the heads back to the filter housing leak. The fittings at the back of heads leak. They have rubber-like seals on mine, I think. The fuel pump has a weep hole that leaks. I'm sure there are more. There are oil leaks too.
Hitman had a thread with pictures of his valley after he cleaned it so I thought I should clean mine too. I suggest cleaning as the place to start.
A super-bright flashlight and an inspection mirror are good. Rubber gloves are good so you can touch a leak and look at your finger for wetness.

I am not saying do this, BUT really, really consider it. I dicked with that mechanical stuff for entirely too long. Time is money also. Leaking fuel costs money.
Start with the basics. I had a loose metal fitting at the heads, they needed a 9/16" wrench I recall. Passenger I got from the bottom and driver was the top, passenger was a bit loose. The fuel lines on top between mechanical pump and fuel filter assembly could be leaking. I do advise removing the dummy light sensors as one of mine was weeping. Chances are if you are on this board, you will actually service that thing at an appropriate interval. Apparently all three can be removed with 1/8" NPT plugs, follow wiring back and remove those three wires. Keep the two for the IPR, I just built a new harness for that guy.

I was going to suggest efuel too, its not an answer for everybody but it is a lot simpler to diagnose a fuel problem with it. and a better system. its not something that you wanna do tomorrow, it takes a little bit of reading and time to find out if you want to do it yourself or buy a kit. but there are plenty of write ups on both. it was a little daunting the first time I read over one but after the second or third time it started making more sense. I did mine after the stock fuel pump on top of the motor crapped out. again its not an answer for everyone but it is something to consider, plenty of people are still running the stock fuel system and are just fine with it.
and that fuel system hitman x got looks pretty good btw, about what I spent on my diy, way cheaper if you add in all the trips to town for fittings and online searching.

I spent a lot of time searching for a Haynes or chilton manual for my truck, with little to no avail. besides helm inc that sells them for like 50-100$ per issue. since then ive also found a ATG (automotive training group) manual for 98-03 powerstroke. includes some 6.0 stuff too. don't know if you can buy them online, my dad was a state mechanic and he got it through work years ago.

i agree..this forum has been a TREMENDOUS help in all my truck projects, you guys have helped me so much, I would have been paying shady mechanics for jobs I could easily do myself.*
