I cleaned maf sensor yesterday. I’ll clean throttle body and Idle air control this weekend. Hubby thinks it’s fuel filter or pump but it’s fine the rest of the day. I just feel like I’d be having issues all day if it was something like that. My f150 did this but it did it all the time and it was the throttle position sensor so I’ll check that too.

Throttle position sensor will usually throw an engine light. Do you have an engine light on?

Another thing that can cause hard starts is the fuel sending sensor, on the f150 it’s under the spare tire and from its location they fill up with dirt and mud and rust out. Rough starts too can be bad spark plugs! They not firing and when warm they will fire. Especially if you getting fuel in the oil that’s a good sign

ok thanks I’ll check that out too. I have noticed the fuel gauge does vary a bit I put it down to my driveway being on a slant. Does the gauge work off that same sending unit?

I don’t think so, a Slope will do that with the fuel guage quite normal. The fuel sending unit if going bad will cause same hard starts when warm though too. So would a bad pump and fuel filter. They wouldn’t just be isolated to bad cold starts. If you already cleaned maf, the idle air control valve is another cold start culprit. You can just clean it too

Let us know how you make out. Cleaning the throttle body and idle air control valve will make a huge improvement with how your truck idles if they are dirty! even if this doesn’t fix your issue. If this doesn’t fix your issue I would be looking at the MAF sensor again, not sure if they can be tested, but that is a huge culprit on cold starts and dying after it fires. I read somewhere the first 45 seconds of a start is controlled by the maf

Got the new alarm installed. They found some funky wiring and that the security module was fried. So my locks work the back ones sound like a box of rocks so those actuators will have to be replaced. Still having the cold start issue. Changed the coolant temp sensor with no fix. Cleaned the maf sensor. Still have to clean or change idle air control. Fuel filter looked clean. It’s got to be a sensor.

Lol, why did you change the coolant temp sensor? Maf and iac are your two biggest culprits in a cold start issue. One google search will show this on every thread you read.
