Anyone aware of a camera that would fit into the existing tailgate housing on our trucks. I have owned several trucks with cameras: 2007 Titan, 2008 Grand Cherokee, 2010 Tundra, 2016 F150 and now my 2017 F250. I am in rental vehicles 2-3 times per week. All have adequate cameras during the day, but the Blue Oval options, comparatively speaking, are useless at night.
Just had a thought....perhaps its the tail lights that is the issue to Ford backup cameras, and not the camera itself?
I have LED multifunction lightheads in my reverse lights (steady white backup, flashing white/Amber for plowing) and then similar surface mounted lights on either side of my license plate that do the same functions. So when I'm in reverse I have plenty of light and I find the camera to be very crisp. This tells me it's the OEM reverse lights that may be the issue.

I cant understand how anyone complains about the cameras in these trucks. I travel a lot and have used many rental vehicles. Most recently i used a new silverado. The camera in these trucks is far superior to any vehicle i have used. I get back into my truck and its a relief that i can actually see when backing up again. Even at night i have never had an issue. I guess everyones eyes are different.

I had mine at the dealer within a week of getting my truck last year due to the *****ty resolution at night with the rear view camera. They said they fixed some wiring but it was no different. I am in the crowd that 100% agrees the camera(or the rear LED lighting is causing the bad lighting) is crap on these trucks. Worse resolution at night I have ever had in any of my vehicles at night and even during the day the red, green and yellow lines are pretty faint and hard to see.

Good feedback. Should be an easy experiment by setting a [shop] light under the bumper at night and seeing if it impacts the image quality..... ***penicls on list of things to do***

Could be that we have different light(s) on the truck. What trim is yours? Mine is a platinum.
