Are you asking for reciever hitch that mounts to back frame of truck, or the ball mount which slides into the reciever hitch?

The "best" one includes:

always has the ball size needed; always at the correct height; doesn't stick out so far that you smack your shin bone whilst chasing your dog and it makes you stop, drop, roll and cry like a little gurl.

That really doesn't answer my question, but I'll assume you mean the ball mount that slides into the reciever.

I don't know of any ball mount that won't whack you in the shin bone. Why not spend the 30 seconds required to pull the pin and remove the mount when not in use.

This is the one I use. It comes in 2 other sizes but I find this covers anything I need.

Thx!!! If it wasn't so cold outside, I'd double measure, but will check tomorrow!

Agreed. They can also turn a minor parking lot bump into significant body damage.

How high is "pretty high"? How high is the trailer tongue? Will there be multiple trailers involved? In that case you may want to pick a happy medium. The question you ask is rather vague. In general, 3-1/2" is a pretty typical drop for a 12th gen. 4x4. Drop is measured from the top wall of the receiver tube to the upper surface of the ball mount tab. A ball mount with the tab welded flush to the tube is actually a 2" drop.

After you've had one or two stolen they got locked in. A real PITA sometime to get out. It normally requires a day or two of kroil in the lock (even with the plastic snap-on cover intact) to loosen it up enough to work. I try to remember to spritz it once in a while but, well, I'm old.

Better aggravation-wise to just leave it in most of the time and remember to make a wide turn when going around the back. Pain is an excellent memory jogger BTW.

I keep the 3-1/2" drop in for the horse trailer. I keep the 2" drop behind the rear seat for the welding trailer.

As stated above, it just depends on the trailer. You can easily measure the amount you need with a tape measure or trial an error at a TSC or similar. The tape measure method is easier.
