Hello there, I have been trying to figure this one out for months with no luck. Now the problem is so bad we can not even drive the car. I have a 2000 ford expedition, 5.4 4wd with 180k miles.

Upon ignition, everything is fine. Once we get into drive and start going it is only a matter a few seconds that the oil light will light up, as soon as it does you can feel all forward pull from the engine stop with a slight jerk. Once this happens the car will shake, the engine sounds muffled, and I can give the engine gas.. as the rpm will go up, but none of that power is felt and the car will eventually coast down to 0 mph.

If I put it in park, and restart the engine it is back to square one. Only a few seconds of driving and it happens all over again. I initially thought it was electrical since the problem could be fixed by just restarting the engine. After reading a lot of forums on here i'm not so sure anymore. I have found a few forums on here that suggest the oil sender unit, or maybe a clogged oil intake hose. Was hoping to find some input from someone with more experience as I, any suggestions?

 

The timing chain guides are plastic. Over time they break and fall down to the bottom of the oil pan where they clog the oil pickup tube. That being the case, first the timing chain guides have to be replaced, then the oil pan has to be dropped to clean the old broken pieces out.
