2010 F250 T/H Shift noise

I have a question about a certain shifting noise while in tow/haul mode. Between 2-3 it makes a slight audible clunk. This truck is new to me with 77k miles. It is lifted with larger wheels. Is this normal? Thanks in advance.

I remember something about the spline shaft near the center of the drive shaft itself...Can't remember the details - something about 'blue stuff' on the spline that was a bear to get off...Search on 'clunk' or 'drive shaft thump' - things like that...Also, under my response should be other posts similar to this...Maybe the answer is in there...

If it is a diesel the 2-3 clunk is normal. It is caused by tolerance in the intermediate one way clutch. The gas engine 5R110W transmissions have a lower tolerance one way clutch. If it bothers you enough you could rebuild the trans with the other one way, it fits just fine. The clunk doesn't cause any durability issues, so if you can live with it you won't have a problem from it down the road.

Thanks for all the info guys. It is a gas V10. The slip shaft looks like it never has been touched so good point. I find myself hyper sensitive to any different sounds, worry wart. If no mechanical issues are present, I won’t worry about it. A couple of weeks ago I was idling down a city street and a strange anomaly happened. It felt and sounded like I was rear ended. Something banged and the truck lurched forward. Has only happened once. Could this be related somehow?

Thanks again,

Yes, it could. The slip joint could have bound from lack of grease.

The V10 trans did not have the high tolerance one way clutch.
