Morning guys. I’ve been around FTE for a while, but down in the lowly 7.3 diesel side. Just picked up my first new vehicle ever. ‘18 F150 2.7 CC XLT 4x4 with the 5.5 bed. I’m currently building a dually powerstroke OBS, so this truck will be mainly tasked with hauling the family and some very light loads. So far I’m thrilled with it. Except the darn auto S/S. I’ll be reading up on how to disable that soon. Anyway, looking for a a trifold hard tonneau cover or something similar that you guys have had good luck with. Not really trying to break the bank. The project truck eats up a lot of funds. While we are in here, weather tech vs husky floor liners? Thanks guys. Looking forward to this side of things and a truck that I don’t have to work on!

 

The BakFlip MX4 is fairly popular with a lot of guys here. That's what I've had on my last 2 pickups.

 

I got the X2 revolver rolling cover. Only a few leaks at the back and really like the looks of it. I originally was going to get a tri-fold but once I saw the hard rolling cover I knew it was best for me. Only con I have is that the straps to fasten when its rolled up is ackward, not horrible but could use improvement.

I have a soft rollup cover, it's an Extang Revolution. I like it and it keeps my things covered.



Auto SS....there are some tricks to disable it. However, after driving my truck for a few weeks, I've gotten used to it and can control when it stops/starts.

1. You can keep it from activating by using lighter pressure on the brake pedal while stopped, being in sport/tow mode, having your wheels turned at a sharp angle, or by hitting the button on the dash.

2. If it is activated and you want to restart the engine for any reason: lessen the pressure on your brake pedal, adjust your HVAC temperature a few degrees, click the sport/tow button on your shifter, open your drivers door.....those are just a few off the top of my head.

 

I have used Access roll up tonneau's on my last 2 trucks. The one I had on my '07 Sierra was on from '07 to '15 when I traded for the F150. I only had to adjust it once in those eight years. Plus, IMHO they are one of the best, if not the best looking soft tonneau's.

If you call some of the online retailers they will give you a better price over the phone. I know I saved quite a bit then they had a $75 MFG rebate on top of that. Still not cheap but took some of the sting out.

 

If you look on Amazon, tonneau covers start at $130 and go up. Since the bed is the same....put in 2017 for the year. All the 2018's start at $200....maybe because they are for a newer truck, so they figure you won't mind spending more?

 

Some are pricey, some aren't. I paid $529.55 for my Access Limited in Sep 2015 w/free shipping and no tax.

 

I have a 2017 F150 ecoboost with a 6.5 foot bed . I purchased a Ranch fiberglass tonneau cover, they matched the paint perfectly. The cost was about $1150.00 installed
I have Weather Tech floor liners just for the front. they fit well but I've found that salt doesn't wash from them very easily. For the price next time I'm going to try Husky Finally the best thing thing that I've done to my truck is disable the auto start stop feature. Its very easy to do all you need is a laptop software from Forscan and an OBD link. There are several post in here telling you exactly how to do it

 

Once again thanks for all the replies guys. I have heard that some of the other forums (outside the OBS diesel world) are a little slow and can be prickly. I am pleased to find this isnt the case. I can post a link to my dually build thread if anyone is interested.

 

I got the Jegs trifold for $199 and it seems OK. I have no complaints.

 

I bought a Hard Hat tri fold it looks like a soft cover but has hard panels under the vinyl. So it has the good looks of the soft top and the anti theft properties of the ugly flat hard tri fold. I got it from Auto Anything.

I've had one on my 2011 truck since new. It's a hard aluminum cover that folds like an accordion and it won't break the bank.
