Choosing a Trans cooler

It’s the 180F thermostat.

I fell victim to my own skimming, hurried pace and didn't realize you weren't more well versed with the 4r's cooling setup. Basically, my brain didn't engage. (but that's normal for me if you ask the wife )
Don't bypass the rad.

170F according to a post I read from Mark Kovalsky (Post #9 here - https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...xt-filter.html).

I just did this in my early 2000 F350 that did not come with the otw radiator cooler setup. After much research and trying to have a hydraulic hose company make up something, I finally found parts that fit perfectly and look factory that work very well with the 6.0L transmission ota cooler. The Dorman 624-224 units fit into the radiator nicely, which has been the biggest issue because of the thread makeup. The metal lines come out 2", then it has a 90* bend and continues for another 2". The hose end has the hose bump and stop like the end of the factory transmission lines coming forward. It works well given the drivers side can follow the steering lines to its cooler for a short run and not having to go all the way back and forth.
I went ahead and just replaced all the 3/8" rubber lines while I was doing it as there is not that much and it is not that much money. Just after doing this I wanted to check the flow of the transmission pump...1 gallon per minute. This was really easy to do as the transition on the passenger side can simply be disconnected and there is enough rubber line to drop into a bucket so as to not make a mess. This will come in really handy the next time I have to change the transmission fluid.

Here's a video of the filter:

Read my post a little closer and it states how mine is done. There will be 2 hard lines on the passenger side just forward of the axle that transition into the 3/8" rubber lines. Follow them back to the transmission and find the one coming from the front of the transmission. Connect this line with 3/8" rubber hose to the passenger side of the radiator with the Dorman unit I specified above...you should be able to get them at a local parts store like I did. I ran the line up over the radiator hoses and zip tied them secure to keep them out of the way. Then leaving the drivers side of the radiator with the other Dorman unit with 3/8" rubber line. About midway make the transition from 3/8" hose to 1/2" hose via a brass hose barb. Then run the 1/2" rubber line on up to the bottom of the drivers side 6.0L cooler...I ran mine up through the radiator support and zip tied it secure to keep it out of the way. On the passenger side of the 6.0L cooler run 1/2" rubber line up through the radiator support and into another brass hose barb transition...this is where I left some room to later disconnect the line for easy testing and/or fluid changes. Once you run the last leg of the 3/8" rubber line to the other hard line coming from the back of the transmission you can zip tie it up secure right there.

The upper ranges are 220°F continuous, and 250°F for no more than a half hour at a time.
These temperatures are all at the solenoid body, which is where the TFT (Transmission Fluid Temperature) sensor is located.

You can change out the thermostat temp on this one. The Derale start opening at 165 IIRC and are fully open at 180.

I removed probably 90% of the steel lines, fluid thermostat right behind passenger side front wheel and that's where I made the 1/2 to 3/8" conversion. I left probably 25" of steel line coming off the transmission. The Magnefine filter is located right in front of the passengers wheel by the bumper.
