To buy or not to buy

So I got a line on three highboys. 68, 74, and a 75. The 74 is not complete. Good for parting out. The 75 is pretty much all there. And the 68 is complete. I have no use for the 70's model. I want the 68. None of them run. They guy wants 2K for all three and I also get a snow machine with the deal. What do you think? Thanks Tim

If you have the funds I'd say why not

If the one is good for parting out you can probably make most of that money back

That is the plan if I get them. Only issue I have up here is theres not much demand for these trucks and the 74 don't have a front Axle. So loading it is gonna be a pain in the butt

I think it's a good deal. The 74 will have a divorced 205 transfer case that will be a great upgrade for the 68. No matter I would keep the three as the drive trains are interchangeable the frames are similar.

Snow machine run? Probably worth a few hundred bucks so you'll make back your gas money at least.

If you have the room to keep them, I'd say pull the trigger. I have owned a lot of highboys, and have one now. Not the best 4x4 system IMO. Divorced T case and low pinion front end, I've had my share of damage issues with the front driveline so close to the ground and constant U-joint replacement. Also the T-case seems to flop around a lot, a problem Ford only address on the very last highboy, the early 77 with a rear brace. The 68-72 body is much more solid and plastic free than the 73 and newer, so a good choice (my favorite) Ideally to me would be the 68 body with the late 77-79 high pinion front and married 205.

Well the guy backed out yesterday. Not really sure why. So the search continues
