Aftermarket front and rear chrome bumpers

Who makes a decent front and rear bumper that looks factory for the 1979 F-150's that lasts a while? They want 800.00 a bumper to re-chrome the originals. We don't wanna spend that much. LMC, Dynacorn, Jeff's Bronco Grave Yard, Melvin's Classic Ford Parts? Any suggestions?

#1 choice Dennis Carpenter, JBG, Macs, National Parts Depot.

Hang in there there, there will be a member that has some personal experience on who to use as far as rechroming. Awesome work and not as much..if I remember right?

LMC down here for a reason, you get what you pay for. They do not have a good rep on their "thin as a beer can, chrome as thin as AIR, rust up in the box on the way to ya bumpers". lol

I just got a new front chrome bumper for my 79 f250 from Jeffs Bronco Graveyard. Overall happy with the fit, but there's a huge catch. I bought the bumper, glanced it over, and finally installed it 6 months later after redoing my grill shell. There was a small section where the chrome got yellowed (.5"x4") on the bumper that I had not noticed upon glancing it over. Not huge, but still not happy. Read their return policy and I missed the window, but upon further reading, I would have had to pay the return shipping. That made me decide to never buy another large part from them. Tried to contact them to see if anything could be done or some deal could be made and they wouldn't even get back to me.

I've been looking around for a while now. Prices are all over the place, and most reputable places give very few details about what to expect quality-wise. Should we just assume you get what you pay for?

As of right now, I am looking at Goodmark bumpers. You can actually find information about the product, and they are affordable. They do the triple plate process. It's possible that other places like Mac's and DC use them, but they don't specify a brand name. They all just use the original Ford part number.

Regardless of whomever's bumper ya buy, consider painting the back side with oil-based gloss black paint (like Rustoleum or even POR-15) to stave off future rust. Plus whatever dirt and mud gets kicked up is way easier to wash off.

Not much attention is paid to the unseen side. Look at the backs of cars and trucks at your next car show or cruise in-and the majority of them will have surface rust although the exterior will be as shiny as a new penny.

Check with The truckshop.com
I noticed that they're selling Ford truck parts. They've opened up a store in Concord NC but the Ford parts come from the California store. I thought they only sold the bowtie parts.

Truck & Car Shop located on Batavia Street in the city of Orange. The bumpers they sell are no better than LMC's...made in China crap!

I've been there several times, one time taking several FTE members from Australia & WA that were staying at my residencia, were here to attend the F100 Western Nationals truck show.

When we got there, a guy had bought a rear bumper for his 1969 Mustang. While trying to fit into his trunk (anyone could see that it wouldn't fit!), he dropped it, bending it all to hell.

When I bought my truck in 2012, the kid said he just installed the new LMC bumper a year prior. Now today, it looks 40 years old. The chrome plating is flaking off and these New England salty roads are rusting it up pretty good where the chrome is missing. I'm thinking of building a custom bumper to house a winch and lights and getting it powder coated black. Like you, I really don't want to spent a load of money for an OEM bumper.

I am running a LMC "premium" front purchased about 6 years ago. It has done fine including some winter use.

For re-chrome, I have worked with Tri-Cities. Nice work, real triple chrome plating and not cheap.

I think I paid about $200 for mine. I do plan on painting the back based on stuff I've read on here... My biggest regret, so avoid it if you can, is even though I wasn't willing to shell out the money for re-chroming my original now, I should NOT have sold it on craigslist for $40. Keep your original!

Where are you located?? 800/bumper to replate is ridiculous! We've got a couple shops out here that for a full-size ford car, like my 62 Galaxie costs roughly 400-450/bumper and that includes straightening and removing any dents. Typically in winter you can get a better deal as less people are bringing bumpers in.

I've used Tri-City Plating in TN and Hanlon Plating here in VA

I am thinking of taking a chance on either a Dennis Carpenter bumper or a AMD bumper. IDk what to do. Its for a customer, and he doesn't want to pay tons either for a re-chrome. I don't blame him.

I used Tri-city Plating a couple years ago and they charged me $330. I had to ship it to them but they do nice work. Give them a call and get an estimate. They are in Tennessee. Just google them.

Here I am 5 months later still trying to decide on where to get my bumpers. The Goodmark ones are advertised as USA copper/nickel/chrome. They are upwards of $300 after shipping.

The AMD bumpers advertise as nickel/nickel/chrome. They are around $200.

All the big name stores are vague about what they are selling. About all they say is "premium". You expect quality from DC, BG, and NPD, but some of their prices are close to LMC.
