Thumbs up Water pump brand?

Well gentlemen, water pump gasket is leaking due to the weather. Seems silly to just replace it on a pump with unknown miles.

Is there a particular brand you guys prefer to use on your trucks?

I went through 3 in a short period of time, like 3-4 mo. each.Different places like oReilly, advance auto pts and auto zone. Got one from NAPA and it has held up for over a year. All these are china made. I think Riffraff has one said to be usa made

Alliant or Motorcraft....nothing else. Strictly Diesel has Alliant pumps.

When mine eventually starts leaking i'll be putting the International one on it with the built in coolant filter

I thought about this route some while back, but someone on here made a good point. What if it craps while you're on a trip or away from home? It's not the easiest to get and it requires a new bolt kit that doesn't fit a stock one. You'll be stuck waiting on the special order rather than going to an Autozoo (in a pinch only) and getting yourself back on the road in a timely manner. Been there, believe me when I say it sucks. if you really want coolant filtration, which is over rated anyways, go with an external filter that won't leave you stranded waiting on an expensive pump if it happens to crap the bed. They are good pumps, but this is something to think about.

Good point.
But in my opinion the cast iron pump with integrated filter is high quality, installed by International on trucks that are designed to last 200k or more. I've had mine on for 15 years, but in reality only about 60k miles.

So long as you keep your old bolts and buy a new lower radiator hose when you get that new pump i don’t think that’s a real problem for me. I already carry a spare alternator, icp, ipr, idm, and pcm on my truck. A few extra bolts won’t bother me.

Another vote for the international pump. I installed it a few months back and it's been trouble free since. It seems like a quality part and not any harder to install than a stock pump. And with the built in filter I expect many more trouble free miles from it. If you search I think I even had a thread with a few pictures of the install when I did it. And if you're concerned about getting stranded and not getting a replacement, there is only a few bolts that don't take up much space in the glove box next your spare cam sensor to convert back to stock

There are some radiator and heater hoses you have to deal with too to go back to stock.

I do not disagree it is high quality, but it is still a mechanical part. Of course, with my trouble on the road experience, I am a little gunshy LOL!! I want stuff I can walk across the street from a hotel or truckstop and be able to get quick and easy to get me home. It's just my opinion, but this is one of those feel good mods that hasn't really made a difference to me. There are plenty of high mileage 7.3s on the road that have never had coolant filtration. I don't think it's a debilitating problem.

I agree with the road experience thing. I had the international pump on the mare and when Thomas bought the motor I just gave it to him, a $300 gift, lol. I now have a lifetime motorcraft pump. I do disagree with the coolant filtration, it needs to be done. After I cut open that first filter I couldn't believe my eyes. Yes, you can go a million miles without a filter but your also going to replace a lot more WP's because of the seal being eaten up by 'sand'. A added plus is the filters that put in time release additives and so you don't have to worry about that.
