I put tires on before the level, they have about 6000 miles on them now, I just did the level a few weeks ago. It’s not terrible but it is annoying that the steering wheel seems to grab every bump. If it continues I’ll just turn it back to stock.
Why do you want your caster angle so high?I’m sure I am going to get persecuted for saying this but I think caster angles over 2.5 are too high. Everything I’ve been told and read about DW (and I’ve read a lot about it because my 2011 had the DW for 5 years) says you shouldn’t have to go that high. The higher the caster the more the front tires will wander.
Is the caster adjustable or do I need to buy different caster bushings? I got the ones with the bds kit installed right now but not sure if those are adjustable.
Am I crazy? I used to do alignments and from what I remember more caster is used to keep the wheels going straight. The trade off is a wider turning radius. Reducing the caster will cause the vehicle to wander more. I'm not sure how more or less caster relates to a bump, but it seems to me that more caster would have less shake. Could it just be a problem with the lift kit engineering? Or maybe the model of tire or tire size?
Snowman No you shouldnt your truck has no problems. When I had 35-12.50-18 80 Lbs tires, I had some bump steer, I switched to 295 70-18 Michelins Defenders 58 Lbs each. Drives like stock. I set the caster to 2.0 drivers side and 2.5 Pass.
I am running 35x11.5x20” tires and I run them 65-70 in the front and 80 in the rear or they look like marshmallows when I am fully loaded and hookup to a skidloader trailer or have my sled deck and sleds on top of the truck.
Snowman where did you get your caster bushings? Have a part number for them? Can you take a picture of them?
I didn’t install the leveling kit so I’m sorry but I can’t help you out on that one. I’m not even sure if they aren’t the stock ones? My caster isn’t much different than stock.
I drove the truck for the first time in a week and it def is not that bad. The bumpsteer is very little but it is there. I drove about 50 miles on a straight highway and it tracked very straight. It’s only on crowned roads it wants to walk towards the curb. I am going to have the alignment shop see if they can do anything about that. It may not be possible to fix that.
