I guess someone knows your truck better than you! LOL

when you say you bought the shock and the ball mount separately, do you mean the balll mount on the hinge or the one attached to the inner fender? I also painted my hinge red to keep it the same color as my truck.

The one on the inside on the lower hinge.

ya no truck comes with that unless it already has the shock installed. Only the upper ball is on all of the trucks when they are manufactured. The kit comes with the hinge and the shock only. The ball is attached to the hinge in the kit.

I have used the DeeZee tailgate assist for years, but what I found was eventually the adapter nut that goes inside hole in tailgate, pulled out. After same thing happening on two trucks, finally just installed 2 DeeZee Tailgate Shocks, 1 on each side, no more problems, and using same adapter nut.

Sooner or later any strut will lose its compression. I think it took about 5-6 years on my 2006 before it started losing compression. It would fall early, but then it still would slow down. It was on the truck for over 10 years.

This thread made me remeber that I had a Ford kit in my garage that I ordeed awhile back and never put on. Took about 30 min start to finish, including putting the tools away. It works very well.

Good to hear as I just received mine in the mail the other day. Going to try to get it installed this weekend. My problem is that I recently had bicep tendon repair done and I'm limited to 5 lbs weight limit for the next 4 weeks. Tore it loose about 3 years ago and finally decided to get it fixed. So now the right arm has had the bicep reattached both at the shoulder and now at the elbow. getting old kinda sux but it beats the alternative.

Installed the Ford kit on my 2017, like that it’s hidden and works fine with Ford tonneau cover. Paint matched to truck before installation.

There are 2 or 3 videos on Youtube showing the parts and installation.

My folding MX4 allows it to open and close with no issues
