From what I’ve been told if you’re not towing then 2.7 for mpg but otherwise 3.5

What ever you choose make sure it's got port fuel injection nozzles as well as direct injection.

Either should be a good choice. As previously posted, really depends on what you plan with the truck.

Oh GlueGuy...
The orange fan boys say oranges sound better when you rip the peel off of them...and the flavor builds to a crescendo as you eat it.

However, all the tangerine fan boys will say the tangerine packs more flavor in a smaller package and delivers more flavor right away.

Don't even get them talking about which produces better burps.

OP.....both will get the job done. If you were doing anything drastic with the truck, surely you would have mentioned it.

The 3.5L Ecoboost 3.5L Torture test has always impressed me. I wonder if the 2.7L engine would have done as well.

The 17 and up 3.5 EB is a completely different engine than the previous 3.5 EB.

good point i guess my concern is durability. having driven the 4.6 to well over 200,000 miles i'm, wondering what Ford is giving up in durability to get the power out of these little engines.

I wonder what Ford did different to the Raptor 3.5L EB engine.

Well, the guy with the 1973 460ci 7.5L engine probably asked the same thing about your 4.6L. His big ole 460 (again, 7.5L) put out a whopping 212 horsepower. How would you respond to him about what Ford gave up to allow your 4.6L to put out [depending on model and year] up to 300 HP??

He would have been concerned about durability too.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that things are changing and we can't necessarily apply old logic to new engines. Power per liter has increased dramatically in the past 10 years.

Very simple.

If you don`t plan on doing any heavy towing, the 2.7 will be perfect for you.

Also, the mileage will be better than the 3.5 and as an added bonus and depending on the trim level, the purchase price will be cheaper.

There are great deals out there to be had on remaining 2017`s that are still sitting on dealers lots so don`t let the new dual fuel injection and 10 speed transmission on the 2018`s stop you from getting a 2017 at a great price unless the prices are comparable.

Hope this helps you out.
