Lariat "Tailgate LED" and other stuff...

I really hate to post a thread about this, but I've looked and can not find an answer: What is the Tailgate LED on the Lariat trim trucks?

I've been going through the Build & Price and saw this feature listed as standard equipment, but no where can I find a picture or description of it. Is it a light on the tailgate - maybe shining down towards the hitch?

Also, if the Lariat has the Remote Tailgate Release, does that mean that the handle to manually open it is the electronic handle and not a traditional handle? Any opinions on this? Seems like something to go wrong and then I won't be able to open the tailgate.

Thanks for any info...

You are correct. It is a white LED light that shines outward and down from the tailgate handle area.

The tailgate has a button that operates an electric actuator to open it.

I'll post a pic for you.

Cool - thanks! I guess that light falls under the category of "the little details."

Any thoughts on the electronic tailgate latch? The only negative I read about here and there is what seems like a random issue where they open on their own. Or, has that been chalked up to user error (i.e. inadvertently hitting the release button on the fob?)

I have not heard any issues of people not being able to open their tailgate.

Here is a pic of the tailgate light and and where it illuminates.

It's user error. Frankly, I don't understand how people do it...it's never happened to me.

On the Lariat, you get an illuminated entry when you unlock it or open the door. There are LED's are under the side mirrors and the tailgate LED. It does a good job of lighting up around the truck.

This is how it all lights up when you unlock it. It's nice to have the area around the truck lit, so you don't bump into anything or trip over anything.

I park in a climate controlled space at work, which is where I just took that picture. That's not my home garage.....though the truck is garaged at home too. My vehicles only see daylight when I drive them.

Awesome - thanks for the pictures! Very nice. It actually looks like a bright, useful light.

And, the illuminate entry is really nice. My old '06 Lariat turns on the lights for me as well, except, of course, no LED's under the mirrors and what not - that's very nice.

I'll post a pic for you.

What it is actually for is it shines directly on your trailer hitch ball. great for backing up to a trailer and it's dark! Which I have had to do a several occasions.

The solution to that is a larger garage!

Yep! When we bought our home....the garage size is all I had on my list of ‘needs’.....my wife’s list was much longer, but the garage size was the only feature where I wouldn’t budge.

Our garage is 24x24, and I often find it too confining. Even with the extra length & width a truck that's a little over 20' long does create some challenges.
