Interesting.... I hadn't read/seen that about being able to do it through forscan. Thanks.

I tried this tonight, but something didn't seem right. The spreadsheet says to change:
xxxx xxx4 xxxx to xxxx xxxC xxxx for IPC 720-07-02. My code for that slot was 0F42 48C9, not only was there no "4" in the last digit of a group of 4, there were only two groups of 4 hex digits, not three. Ideas?

Not sure if you are in the right place but there is no line in the IPC 720-07-02. What are you trying to do? or change?

I can confirm that my March, 2011 build won't do the manual regen...

So why do you want to do a manual regen in the first place.

there might be times you get a message to drive to clean exhaust filter. You might be towing in the mountains or some place with a load where you are limited on your speed and distance. So, you can stop, perform a full or even a partial manual regen.

Message

EXHAUST OVERLOADED DRIVE TO CLEAN

EXHAUST AT LIMIT DRIVE TO CLEAN NOW

Action

The diesel particulate filter is full of particles (exhaust soot)
and you are not operating the vehicle in a manner that allows
normal cleaning. One of these messages will stay on until the
exhaust filter cleaning has begun, at which time the CLEANING
EXHAUST FILTER message displays. We recommend you
drive the vehicle above 30 mph (48 km/h) until the CLEANING
EXHAUST FILTER message turns off. Refer to your diesel
supplement for more information.

The diesel particulate filter will continue to fill with particles
(exhaust soot) if you ignore this message. The service engine
soon light will illuminate and engine power may be limited, if
cleaning is not permitted. Dealer service will then be required
to restore your vehicle to full-power operation.

Or

STOP SAFELY NOW

Your vehicle exhaust system temperature exceeds intended
operating range. If this warning occurs, a chime will sound,
followed by reduced engine power. The engine will shut down
when your vehicle speed is below 3 mph (5 km/h). Stop the
vehicle as soon as safely possible. Have the system checked
by an authorized dealer.

With regens taking 12-30 miles, there are some who never complete a regen so a manual regen can set things right. I did it once as I was 95% full and leaving for a tow trip the next day with a new tune, so I wanted a fresh start to measure mileage. Plus I was curious to see what a manual regen was like. The answer is LOUD.

Well I am so far behind the times. Upgraded from 2005 6.0L F350 to 2017 6.7L F350 DRW. So don't know the ins and outs of this DEF crap. So far, hook up trailer and go it has worked so far. Thanks to this site we all are getting smarter. Will Have to look for how to do regen in 2017.

Unless you do mostly short trips, you probably won't need to worry about it. For me, it was just getting to know and understand my truck. I found service departments to be somewhat clueless.
