Front end noise fron 2012 Explorer FWD

I've got a weird noise coming front my right front that is intermittent and, of course, I can't replicate it when I have a chance to look closer. When I am coming to a stop from about 5 mph to 0 mph, there is a "row-row-row" noise that slows as the car slows. There's almost a ratcheting/gear sound with it. It doesn't seem to matter if I am on the brake or not. I can't hear the noise at anytime otherwise, and it only happens after the car has been running a while.

It's not the strut bearings. I've already been through that. I have changed all the brakes, front and rear, and there's no change. It just doesn't feel like a brake problem because this isn't affecting the way it's driving and the car isn't pulling in either direction.

That's very interesting. That looks like something I need to go ahead and take care of, but the description doesn't really sound the same. I only notice my noise coming to a stop, and that's typically going straight. I've never heard anything rolling forward and turning like he's doing in the video.

It's got to be something brake-related.

How do your CV axle boots look?

You may have a wheel bearing starting to fail. They are a very common failure on these vehicles.

The CV Axle boots look fine.

The noise started getting worse tonight, and was only happening when braking. I could actually feel some shuddering when turning slow in a parking lot. It still is only audible as I come to a stop. It's some kind of friction or rubbing.

Could it be anything other than brake related since it goes away as I accelerate from a stop?

I know you said you changed your brakes, what was done with the rotors? I'm pretty sure my front rotors are slightly warped (hot brakes plus driving thru cold water up above the bumper). Mine makes a row-row-row sound and shakes a little when I am braking at lower speeds but has no issues at higher speeds or when hard braking.

I had the rotors turned back last summer to fix some wheel wobble. I figured I was in good shape for a while. I went ahead and ordered a new set that should be in tomorrow. I hope that fixes it. I’m going to clean and lube the caliper pins while I’m at it.

UPDATE: I installed new brake rotors. I also inspected the calipers pins and wheel bearings, and they are fine. I've had no noise since then. I guess there was just a film on the old rotors.
