Need help picking engine

Alright so I have a1991 F150 2wd 3inch lowered with a monster trans currently on the way. Now my goal horse power isn't anything crazy I'm just wanting about 350-400rwhp but it seems a little far fetched with my 5.0 that's currently in it. Anyone have suggestions on a good engine that'll get to that goal without costing too much. Thanks!

A 351w with some form of boost, or a 460 swap would do. You could get that power from a NA 5.0 or 351w but it'd be a pain on the street - big cam, high RPM,...

If that transmission you have coming is for your 5.0, you are limited to what fits. 460 uses a different bellhousing pattern and that means a different transmission. 351W does seem to be your best choice. Make sure you use the correct flexplate.

427 stroker kit in a 351 !! 400 hp to the rear wheels is a lot considering your stock 302 with a C6 is laying down less than half that.

What is your budget? Is more important than what do you want the truck to do

3K isn't going to get you there.

Ok, 3k... so what do you want/need 350 hp for? Just to play around or you trying to race? And what auto trans do you have, the e40d or a 4R70w ?

Well I obviously wasn't talking about those trans... You asked if I wanted to race it or just mess around. That's what I replied "both" to...

400 crank HP isn't far fetched for the 5.0 and you might just do it for under $3k with some savvy shopping, but you will be giving up EFI and going to a carb. 500 crank HP will translate into a bit over 400hp to the ground but now you're getting into the area where the stock 5.0 block is a grenade waiting for a place to go off, so you can make it work but it's anybody's guess how long it will last. If you want a motor that you can just keep adding to safely start with a 351.

I have read that you can get adaptors to convert aod or c6 to a 460, might do some research in that direction.

You could start with your stock 5.0 and GO to a 5.8 later for better power and reliability. But, for 3 grand you are limited so boost is the best answer.

and keep in mind this is a bone stock mustang 5.0 so other than the HO cam and forged pistons it's just a stock 5.0.
if you stayed at 6 to 7 psi you would be ok I think. Then build a street 5.8 and boost it. 400 easy hp and freight train tq.
