Let's talk about coils. What do you guys usually pay? I was told Denso makes the coils for motorcraft so just use those. Napa wanted $55 for denso's. Advance auto wants $70 for Denso's. Autozone's website showed $55 for Denso's. Napa had 2 and Autozone had 1. I went to Napa first and bought two, then when I went to Autozone they were only $27 when the guy rang them up. So I bought the one they had in stock. Then I went back to Napa and showed them my receipt and they took their 2 back and then price matched them to match autozone and resold them to me. The napa clerk looked up their cost and it was $26.xx. I wonder how Autozone is selling them so cheap, or is it maybe a mistake? When I got home I looked at Autozone's website again and it still said $55. I just looked again and it shows $27. Very strange..........all the same Denso coils with the same part number and the autozone and napa ones came in the exact same box. I wonder if its a mistake in Autozone's system

That's about what I paid, Motocrafts were around $55.00 I recall. First time I ever bought anything from Rock, but it was a good experience. Parts arrived in two days and the shipping was very reasonable at under $7.00.

time to hijack this thread into a brief discussion about Rockauto:
ive ordered many time from them over the years with few complaints.
Once I got some wiper blades that were new-old-stock: about a decade old. The sealed boxes had a reminder card to replace them and the options were many, many years prior. The rubber was hard- they sucked.
And I Had the wrong ball joint inside the correct ball joint box once. Easy return and credit.
I received a crushed air filter once. Easy credit.

And I still don’t understand the “help me choose” feature. I’ve tried it many times. So I just look for parts with the little truck icon.

I replaced mine today. Cleared the PCM memory. Drove 100 miles. It definitely runs perfectly smooth now. Strangely, seems less peppy though. Look at this picture, I carefully moved the Denso sticker to reveal the ford number underneath it.

So we have gotten some heavy rains, I want to give this thing it's best shot at not being pulled out (the engine). I think I have a few days I can drive it without salt on the roads. What else do you commonly change on these? Nobody had a motorcraft pcv valve in stock but I have one now. I think I'll pull the IAC off and inspect/clean it as it seems to be idling up and down slightly at a red light. I drove it around 10 miles and it seems to run ok, under load it runs great. Idle and when engine lugs it seems to fall on it's face. I assume oxygen sensors would help too. I was gone for a week and last night when I got home and tried to start it, it started very difficult, I think part of that may be old gas (below quarter tank). Crank and Crank with nothing, short cycles 5-8 seconds. Then pause, took about 10 of these to get it to light and then it fired and ran immediately. I added 20 gallons of fresh fuel last night. I'll try it again tonight and see if starts easier with fresh gas.

My other V10 also has a bluetooth OBDII thing on it. That van runs perfect and starts instantly always so I feel like I know what this engine could be like and it's just not there. I'll throw that on this van and see what it's saying as well.
