short answer is yes.....BUT its probably not a straight forward process.
You probably need the wiring harness and ECM that went to the 4.2 engine, and a few other things....maybe engine mounts?? I'm not sure if the trannys are the same either??
were you planning on keeping the 4wd drive too?

I would not do it. 98...pretty much 97 and 98 are the same. 99 up has more electrics, and it's not an easy swap. If you want to get the V8 truck going, best to put another 4.6 in it. And 2wd trans will not bolt up to the transfer case.... So there another cam of worms right there. And Ford also has 2 different 4.6s. One is a Windsor, the other one is a Romeo. One easy way to tell them apart is Windsor has 8 bolts holding the flexplate, and Romeo is 6. Most Romeos are in cars, and the winsdors are in trucks. And the winsdors are hard to find. I went through this. And the engines don't interchange....
