4x4 not engaging, check 4x4 message followed by wrench light 6.7L
This morning i started my truck as usual(2012 f250 6.7L) and plowed my first lot not needing 4x4, i went to shift into 4x4 in the next lot as the snow was a little thick i was backing through and i heard a small noise that sounded like the electronic shifter trying to engage into 4x4 but nothing happened, that happened for about 10 seconds and i was shown a message that read " check 4x4" with a wrench light, message went away but the wrench light stayed until i moved my ESOF **** back into 2wd position, i attempted to manually lock hubs and it feels as though they dont want to budge but the truck is not engaged into 4x4 whatsoever, i checked all fuses and they are all good, next step is to check electronic connections on the transfer case and see if something is awry there, has anyone else had this problem? Temp was about 15 degrees F, not sure if i should try to thaw it first or what. any suggestions please ill take any advice i need this truck and i cannot afford to have this down for very long,
also i always stop and shift to neutral or come to complete stop at least before shifting into 4x4, very frustrated anu help at all is much appreciated, inherited this truck from my father who was a whiz with diesels, im finding it can be a full time job just maintaining properly

soon to be brother in law works for ford, he said it would need to be scanned because the wrench light sends a code, my OBD II reader didnt pull any codes besides the ones already existing, was told the other codes were a potential def reductant heater issue so i have been working on researching deletes, getting frustrated with the number of nickel and dime issues ive been having beyond 50k. also is this something that would fall under powertrain warranty? not sure exactly and im at 79k and about 5.5 yrs from sale date. thanks again for your help, i will try to drive and repeat steps and see if i get a different code to come up that may indicate a different problem.
