Question 2003 F350 Door Ajar Light

On my 2003 F350 my "Door Ajar" light stays on quite often. I go around and check all 4 doors, and they are all properly secured. Is it a contact that is going bad? What and how do I check this?

Pretty common problem.

With a door open, spray the latch down with WD-40 or something like. Then open/close the door several times. This usually solves the problem. If not move to next door.

I had the same problem several years ago on my 2003 F250SD. Turned out to be the driver's side door ajar switch. Motorcraft p/n FOSW-5854 (Ford XF2Z-14018-AD). It is a small switch located inside the door on the latch assembly.

Thanks Ron, I'll check it out, and try some WD40 like Dean said.

Angry door ajar problem

I sprayed mine down with WD40 and pull the switch out and cleaned it, but still door ajar light on and chime dinging. Radio also stays on for 10 minutes before shutting off. Cab lights don't light up until after running pickup and shutting key of then open door and they come on. Could this all be because of the door ajar sensor switch on driver door? My truck is a f350 super duty.

02f350blanchard,

The radio staying on for 10 minutes sounds normal to me, but the door ajar light, chime and cab light operation all sound like what I had when my door ajar switch needed replacement. The cab light times out after about 30 seconds because the vehicle thinks the door is still open, even though you physically closed it. I replaced the switch on the driver side door and all was good; did not worry about the passenger side since the driver side door usually gets 10 times more use.

Angry Door ajar problem

I've tried all the fixes suggested and still no change. That's including spending $47 on a brand new door ajar switch/sensor. Nothing I do works. I cannot lock or unlock with my remote keyless entry. So I use the driver side door lock button and all four doors lock, but then the driver door unlocks. I have to manually push it down to get it to stay locked. By deduction, it seems as if it's a security system problem, but I don't know where to look for the solution.
