1999 F-150 brake shudder...

My 1999 F-150, 5.4L, Lariat, auto has always had front brake shudder when going down mountains at highway speeds. Even when not towing my bass boat.

My plan is to replace the front and rear brakes (rear drum) with new pads/shoes, rotors/drums and hardware in the Spring. Any recommendations for brands? Has anybody else had similar issues and corrected it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Doubtful you need rears.

Stay away from powerstop.
Buy local if you can do you can deal with warranty issues if needed.

I used speed perks and online discount at Advance Auto and then picked up in store. Not sure what you have up there.

Thanks! We have NAPA and Lordco (Canadian-based) for auto parts.

I have had good luck with NAPA pads/rotors in the past on other vehicles, and I will likely go with their premium line of parts when I finally pull the trigger.

Just thought I would see if anyone had other suggestions or similar issues.

My 2000 F150 does this as well. I was told that the shaking could occur if the rotors were warped but the pads were still okay. However... Les Scwaub might be messing with me.

It could be something as simple as rust or grooves in the rotors. Any good mechanic/garage can "turn" the brakes at a minimal charge when compared to just throwing money at new parts. Get your brakes checked by a pro.
