Grant Steering Wheel - Removal of Wheel Mounted Cruise Control?

Hi,

I'm looking to add an aftermarket Grant steering wheel onto my '85 Bullnose and was wondering what I need to do with the wiring for the cruise control.

I don't really care to use the cruise control, so I was wondering what can be done with the wiring or if anyone has had (and solved) this issue before?

Thanks.

Is it in the way of the new wheel? You should have a brush set that transfers the cruise and the horn circuits. If it's not in the way, hook the horn up and leave the rest of it alone.

Thanks Franklin. I'm actually putting on an older style wood rim wheel (think late 60's Mustang) and there is no provision for cruise.

If there are no brushes to pick up the cruise signals, then it should just sit there and not give any problems, it just will not work. Is that what you are asking? Or do you want the cruise to work with buttons somewhere else?

I'd say the same as Franklin2 did. i think that in later trucks, they put the cruise wiring in EVERY column, it was just unused if they didnt connect to anything.

Yes, the ones that are drive by wire with a servo for the throttle do not need anything but the steering wheel with the buttons, and then some programming to activate the cruise feature.

Not been able to get the cruise to work on my 84 F 150. When I bought the truck, everything for the CC was in place under the hood, but had a standard horn pad. I bought a CC horn pad, no work. Switched the connectors at the bottom of the column, as someone suggested. No work. Found a tilt column, with cruise, at the boneyard, figured I had the cat by the derriere'. Installed said column, no work. Running low on thoughts.....

It will blow the fuse, and the horn works with the cruise on/off switch.

Do you know if you have a horn relay. The relay is needed with cruise.
Here is a photo, its the silver thing.

I'll have to look for the relay, where does it usually hang out at?

On my truck it is mounted with the computer, which is above the gas peddle.
Is your truck a DS2 IGN system (pre computer)?
Not really sure on your truck.

EDIT: PS The other black box in the photo is the "brain box" for the cruise, you do have this also...........

you could run push switches on the dash for cruise, just cut the wiring on the column connector and run it to push switches.

I believe it's pre computer, no place to plug in a code reader that I can see.
