2018s- How long order to delivery?
#91
Good point! However.... Why can't Ford track an order??? And they are totally inconsistent!! I ordered on 1/24 with DORA acknowledged on 1/31. It does NOT show up in COTUS yet. I have no VIN.
Others have their orders show up in COTUS within 2-3 weeks, sometimes sooner, and have a VIN.
My dealer can see my order and tells me it is in order processing and is "clean". They have a system for customers to track their own order and it does not work very well. At least not for me.
Very frustrating.

I think you missed the point. I run factories around the world building complex devices and you are right the inbound logistics and supply are incredibly difficult to manage. I also designed all of the inbound logistics tracking into a Toyota car manufacturing plant with truck rolls every 6 minutes. Given the speed at which Ford is building then it is clear that they have these systems nailed.
What I am talking about is the finished product and actually it is very easy to track an individual rail car every step of its journey and rail companies do this. It just doesn’t get translated into an easy to use system for the likes of you and me who have plopped down a big chunk of change to understand when we are going to get our goods.

Why? We aren't the rail company's customer. Ford is their customer.
If you screamed at ford loud enough you would eventually get an answer.
But should ford flex their muscle and force the rail company to get a bigger customer service dept? I'd rather just pay less for a truck and be patient
Rail can be tough. I had a load of containers scheduled past couple weeks via rail. Kept getting multiple delays on every one. Talked to multiple people and could not get an honest answer. I eventually asked the trucker that brought it in (customer service reps don't typically know or try to know or have reason to not express it). The rail port got a lot of rain recently and a huge number of their offloaded containers simply sunk in the ground. It jammed up all their facilities for days with tow trucks and the whole nine. With stuff like that and the massive driver shortage, there is too much to tell sometimes if the goal is to provide an ETA. Particularly with the driver shortage now, you cause more damage by giving an ETA than not.

Dec. 23, 2017 I placed an order for my custom 2018 F250 Lariat 4x4 SRW 6.2L from a dealership located in Northern IL.
Jan. 9, 2018 Dealer supplied me with VIN#
Jan. 12, 2018 Dealer informed me of an expected build date around the 2nd week in Feb. 2018 form the Kentucky Plant.
Feb. 3, 2018 Dealer informs me that the truck is scheduled to start building on Feb. 14, 2018 and expected to be completed by Feb. 19, 2018.
Feb. 20, 2018 the dealer calls & informed me that the truck is built and I should take delivery by the 1st week in March 2018, but he would not guarantee it because it was in the hands of a shipping company and it had to go through a "Mixing Center" for a period of time, before it was placed on a truck for delivery.
March 2, 2018.... Bingo, I took delivery of my new truck!
This was my 1st vehicle ever purchased from this particular dealer, but it surely will not be my last! I have been extremely pleased with the entire process and commend them for their great communication skills.
Side Note: The gentleman I was working with the whole time turned out to be the OWNER!
