95 Ranger, lady needs advice

Hi. I own a 1995 Ford Ranger XL, 2.3L, 5 speed manual. 2WD, ext cab pickup. I love my truck but lately she don't love me. The A/C won't get cold & the heater/defrost won't get warm. I can change how much air she blows and where it goes (floor, dash etc), I just can't change the temp. The control **** turns with exactly the same feel as before & there is no change in sound or smell when using heat or A/C. The air that comes out is the same temp on heat & A/C. Slightly warmer than outside air, like outside air that's picked a little warmth blowing past a warm motor. I'm no mechanic & can't afford inflated bills from a disreputable mechanic. I'm also new to this area to haven't yet found a trusted & affordable mechanic. Because of this I need to learn as much as possible so that when I take it to be repaired I will have a better idea what I'm getting into. Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause of my trucks problem? Any info will be greatly appreciated and if you start getting over my head on the info I will just google what I don't understand until I learn what you're trying to impart.

Could be the blend door not moving due to "frozen", bad actuator or control. Not familiar with a Ranger but, just replaced the blend door actuator on our 09 Grand Marquis - PITA. Check utube or google 1995 Ford Ranger heat problems.

I agree with the blend door actuator as being the first thing to look at. The dash temperature **** controls the actuator which in turn moves the blend door between the hot and cold sides in order to mix the hot and cold air for your desired temperature out of the vents.

Actually come to think of it I think the Ranger in order to move the blend door was still using a cable and not an actuator back then. If that's the case the cable could be broken at the blend door, or the blend door itself could've broken off it's pivot shaft (hinge.)
