08 Navigator running board problem and question about remote start

Hello!

We recently bought a 2008 Lincoln Navigator, very nice vehicle and overall very happy with it. Just have a couple small things I am trying to figure out on it. It has a problem with the right side running board stuck in the down position. The running board will retract if I press on it with my hand after closing the door, otherwise it remains down all the time. The driver side running board works fine, raises and lowers normally when opening/closing the door.

Is there a way to keep both running boards down all the time and turn off the motor to keep them from retracting? Would it be a bad idea to do so, could they get damaged while going through a car wash or something like that?

Also another thing I haven't figured out are the buttons on my keyless remote, I bought the vehicle from a used car dealer and the buttons on the remote are worn off. The guy at the car lot said it has remote start on it but could not show me how to use it. I tried pressing each of the buttons in a variety of different ways but no start. The red button is the alarm but can't figure out what the blue button is supposed to do. I looked for a remote on ebay to match up with mine but could not find one identical to it. Here's a picture of my remote:

Maybe you could unplug the running board motors but I would not do it. They are low enough to hit some curbs. If you hit a curb it probably would be very expensive to fix.

I would fix them now before the passenger side hits something or burns out the motor trying to fold up.

I have a 2007 Navigator and my remotes have 5 buttons. So I can't tell you what the lower right button does on your remote.
Sorry not to be any help,
Richard

The buttons are:

Lock - Unlock
Panic - Trunk

You need a different remote for the remote start feature.

Thank you both for the replies. One more question also regarding the keyless remote. When I press the unlock button he horn sounds, and also when I press lock the horn sounds. Is it supposed to do that? Every Ford Ive ever had honks only if pressing lock twice. Is there any way I can get it to stop honking when unlocking? Its really annoying lol

I tried but it didn't work. Has anyone ever seen that keyless remote like I have pictured, does it look like it is a factory Ford key fob? Maybe it is an aftermarket? I searched "2008 Lincoln Navigator keyless entry remote" and none of them look like that one.

Anyone else with an 07 and up Navigator, is the horn supposed to honk when when you press unlock on the key fob? If there is a way to make it stop doing that I would really like to know.

Is there an FCC Id number on the back?

Yes, FCC ID: GOH-FOUR

I played around with the remote a little more, but still could not get the remote start to work and couldn't figure out how to stop the honking either.

If I press lock once, it honks but very slightly. If I press unlock once, the horn sounds much louder. If I press the red button, the alarm sounds. If I press the blue button, the horn beeps twice and a red light flashes once on the dash like a lock symbol.

I know that on other Fords you can reprogram the key fob by turning the key from off to run 8 times and the doors unlock to indicate its in program mode, but this vehicle doesn't do that. Did Ford change the key fob program procedure on these?

I don't think it is a factory remote. At least it doesn't look at all like mine.
my remote has 5 buttons and is not a remote engine start type:
Left to right - 1st row, Lock, Unlock,
2nd row, liftgate, liftgate glass,
3rd row Red Panic button.
One tap on lock will lock all locks. Two taps on the lock will lock all locks plus flash the lights and honk the horn.
On the back it says Ford Motor Company and #3L7T 15K601 AB

It's a dealer install system remote, not a factory installed system remote.

I was able to figure out how to get the remote start to work. Here's how I did it in case someone in the future stumbles upon this problem and has the same remote.

I reprogrammed the key fob using the usual method like on other Ford vehicles: insert the key and turn from off to on and back 8 times quickly until the door locks active to enter program mode. Then I pressed the lock button once, then unlock once, then the blue start button once and I was good to go.

For some reason, the first couple times I tried this method to reprogram the key fob it didn't work, maybe I didn't turn the key back and forth quickly enough.

Also, this procedure fixed the horn issue as well. It no longer honks when I press unlock like it did before. I think the problem was the key fob wasn't programmed correctly and that's why I had the issues.

Thank you both for trying to help me.
