In and outs of building a custom exhaust

In and outs of building a custom exhaust
Where do the formulas lie?
On more than one occasion header length has been said to require a close tolerance
Others would claim that back pressure is very important in the area after the collector
Just recently another’s thought was to step down from 3-1/2” to 3” in a similar case but use a length minimum of 8” taper
Not having a degree in engineering, sometimes I’ll try researching the subject and then make a decision to carry on
If I can transfer some pictures from the phone, I’ll explain from the exhaust flange back what my choice is

You all will have to bear with me, I have no clue what I’m doing
pictures 1-4 show the bends tacked in place until I reached to the point where they will drop in a line alongside the Bell housing and level out at the centerline of the drive shaft, with the collector attached before the front yoke
The pipes are 1-3/4 and the collector end is 3-1/2”
My choice is to continue beside the driveshaft with 3-1/2”, or taper down to 3” through the tunnel of the cage before reaching the quick change rear end
The decision then is to turn them downward, and be done, or go outward and exit through the 1/4 panels
When the interior is complete, that will seal the fumes from interning just like your normal vehicle you drive on the street
Let me know if what you think, you can’t hurt me any worse that what I’ve already been through
