Factory 302 Breather Setup

Does anyone have photos of what the valve cover breather setup looked like from the factory on a 1986 F-150 EFI 302? Want to make sure mine is setup correctly from the PO. Also wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what might cause a bit of oil to be making its way out of the breather?

Gary Lewis has some great information on the breather set up. Check “Gary’s Garagmahal”

A little bit of oil means your PCV valve is clogged or not working for some reason, or your engine has a little bit of wear to it, and a little bit of blow-by. When the engine is new, the PCV valve actually puts a slight draw on the inside of the engine. Fresh air is let into the engine through the pipe going to the aircleaner.

As the engine gets older and the rings wear, more and more pressure from the combustion chamber gets past the rings and goes inside the engine. This naturally gets worse and worse till the PCV valve can't handle all the volume. So some pressure starts building inside the engine, and instead of sucking in fresh air from the aircleaner, the pressure inside the engine relieves itself down the pipe into the aircleaner. There is always some oil smoke involved in all this, and that is were the oil comes from.

I'm definitely missing a bunch of pieces. I will take a closer look at it this weekend. I'm surprised the emissions place didn't pick that up. Of course, they couldn't figure out how to drive the 4 spd with a granny gear either.....

PO removed the factory intake box and hacked up the tubes for a crappy intake setup. Now I can't find the stock setup or an aftermarket one. Any ideas? It looks like the drivers side is a straight vent line from the oil filler to the air box but no PCV, am I seeing that correctly? Any ideas on where to send it not that I don't have an airbox to connect it to? Appears the passengers side is connected, but I'm going to replace it anyway. It's also missing a cap on the upper elbow. Going to do valve cover and upper manifold gaskets possibly this weekend so I'll fix the passenger side then. Can I put a tee in the upper manifold instead of the elbow and connect both there or is that a no-no since it's after the throttle body instead of before it like the factory setup was?

EDIT: After doing a little more research last night, it appears that I'm probably ok just venting the drivers side to atmosphere. Wondering if it just needs a new grommet to seal things up, the breather that is on there is a little loose.

All these places in Colorado claim to have a 5.0 engine to fit your truck. If they have the engine there, they may still have the truck or Bronco there with the aircleaner you need.

The 2nd picture is the PCV and if I understand it right the 3rd picture is the other end of the PCV. If so that would be right that it goes into the intake chamber.

The other side or breather, do you have a close up of it? Should have a hose that went to the stock air filter box.
It should pull filtered air into the motor and out the PCV to complete the loop.

Finally got a photo of the other side. Since the airbox is gone he just plugged the factory style filter into the hose. With the oil around the breather, I'm wondering if the PCV is plugged. Planning on replacing it when I do the valve cover gaskets.
