RE: Can I Fit a 2017 Into a 7' Garage door?

I didn't want to hijack the other thread. Why are the trucks so high? Why do we need a factory lift kit, and 18 and 20 inch tires? All for appearance/competition? It's gotten so you need a step ladder to get in it, and it won't fit in the garage. Is there anything wrong with the LT 285R16 tires that we ran on "3/4 Ton" trux for umpteen years? I guess that's all for now. Thank you.☺

I'm with you! In the 70's and 80's we had to spend mega bucks to get the lift we are seeing now from the factory. But I kinda like it!

It would actually be nice if it was an option. Maybe a fifth-wheel prep package #2 which includes a lower overall height on SRW trucks. I know I can drop it... just be nice as a factory option.

The 16" tires use rims that are too small to fit around the brake rotors on these trucks. They are rated GVW of #11,500, GCWR 23,500 on a single wheel. The old trucks of yesteryear had much smaller axles, brakes, and suspension parts.

If you want a lower, lighter truck you can order a Chevy/GMC with the smaller tires, lighter weight, IFS front end, but it wont do what you want it doing when the time comes.

What mhoefer said. The brakes on these new trucks since 2011 won’t fit inside a 16” wheel. The minimum size wheel that the brakes will fit inside is a 17”. The tow ratings and cargo capacity of these new trucks is considerably larger than the old ones too. Smaller brakes = smaller loads, plain and simple.

Even with a leveling Kit and 295/65R20 tires and Cab Clearance lights, I am 83.5" tall. 7' tall = 84" So it should squeeze in. F350 4x4

Skip the leveling kit, stay with 275 tires and no clearance lights and you should be fine. Just don't bounce as you drive through the under ground parking
