Ignition trouble 89 350 with460..
The previous owner hooked a push button switch to start the truck after the key is turned not sure why he didn't fix it correctly but oh well, the starter went out yesterday I replaced it today and now as soon as I try to put the positive terminal on the battery the truck trys to start with the key in the off position any ideas would be appreciated .

Pull that little slip on wire off the fender mounted solenoid. If that doesn't stop the starter from engaging when you connect the positive cable, replace the fender mounted solenoid.
If removing that little slip on wire lets you connect the battery cable, look back toward the push button switch.

Glad to hear you got it fixed.
For others who may read this:
Read about the linkage in the steering column that breaks. There is a linkage and a rod between the key lock cylinder and the actual electric switch. There is also a switch on the transmission that could be an issue.
What transmission we are talking about or if the truck has tilt steering matters. There are variations in equipment involved in the complexity of this issue.
