1956 F-800 Big Job Carb

Hi All,

I have a 1956 Big Job with a 332 CI Engine labeled ECT-A. I need a carburetor for it and unknown what I need to buy.

The Engine block has ECT-A on the side of it. Does the -A mean anything special? Truck is a former fire truck and is 4wd.

Thank You!

Hi Mike! Welcome to FTE the best Ford Truck Forum on the world wide Web!

I can't answer your questions but we have guys here that will, several guys have big Jobs, one fella here, Number Dummy, a retired Ford parts man, will have the info at his finger tips.

But before we share any info, you must share with us pictures of your 4 wheel drive Big Job, both inside! And our marmon Herrington experts will want close ups of the under carriage and front axle.

Fantastic find. You’re a hero saving the truck from being split up. The truck probably is a Marmon-Herrington conversion, but there will be interior cab and hood badges showing so if it is. If it is not a M-H, and you find no badges or holes where badges used to be, other period conversion companies were American Coleman, Napco, and Fabco. I believe the Timken-Detroit axles could have been spec’d by any of the conversion companies.

I’m no help on your carb. But I bet our member Chuck Mantiglia of Chuck’s Trucks in CT will either have one or be able to connect you with one. Also, Chuck is a M-H and Coleman specialist.

Interesting that the truck has Budd to Dayton front wheel adapters. They are Dayton part number F-7340A. They are quite rare and allow the use of common demountable rims on both the full Dayton rear hubs and on the front. Your rims appear to be the three part Firestone R-5° type.

Unfortunately you appear to be missing one of your Dayton #7587 wedge clamps. These exact pieces are NLA new but replacements are available that look slightly different. I found the below set of #7587s in a yard as replacements for my Dayton #6079s while I continue my search for the originals. Stu

It was too cool to pass up. Such a neat looking truck. Here are a few tags from the truck Plan is to put a Holmes 525 wrecker body on it.

WOW, that truck is exceptionally rare, with those wheel adapters, and you have an INCREDIBLY uncommon 5-spd OverDrive transmission if it is original, I think it'd be the Clark.
That is a badddd friggin truck, I'd love to have it.

Absoutly my kind of truck. Carb. should be a 4 barrel Holley so called teapot 'G' which
means a goverened carb, although I have seen 2 barrels on those. These pop up time
to time on ebay. What I did on mine also a 1956 332, was I put a later 4barrel intake
with a square bowl Holley 4150G. Some Rochester carb's have that bolt pattern also.
If you have a 2 barrel, a simple cheap adaptor from Speedway adapts to a late holley.
Nowadays an adaptor for yours is probably available I don't know. All I say from here is
you gotta measure the bolt pattern. Again the correct carb. is out there. In your
research "teapot" is the key word anyone in the know instantly knows a teapot..
by the way my truck has double overdrive yes my main is a Clark OD with 4sd auxilliary
with overdrive..............sam
