Sounds like a good plan. The T19 should do you well even if you don't change your rear gears. With a non-O/D fourth gear you will still have the range to hit 70-75 on the highway just fine. If you want a low first gear for towing then get 3.08 or 3.55 gears with the T19 or just get a granny gear transmission like the T18/NP435. The T19 in my opinion is your best bet though. A ZF is a lot of work and money, and keeping a mechanical clutch in there is cool and will last you a long time if you take care of it.

That's what I was thinking get the t19 first then after a while I could decide on what gears and posi or locker to install in my rear end because rear has some slop in it so I'm planning on rebuild eventually anyway

Unless your idea of a Sunday fun drive involves hauling gravel, you don't want or need a T-19. Even the 4.02 1st is nowhere near a close ratio.

Keep the transmission you have. You are not going to blow it up with that 6.

If you want to see what the t19 will be like at speed with the trans you have now, get on the freeway and leave your SROD in 3rd gear. That is what you are going to get. 3rd gear in the SROD is 1 to 1, 4th gear in the t19 or any of the other 4 speeds is 1 to 1.
