Im cutting the firewall section out of a non-A/C truck, and will MIG it onto my 78 supercab to get rid of the HUGE factory A/C unit, which will make changing plugs, headers, plug wires etc, much easier.


Ive got all the non-A/C ductwork and heater controls cleaned up and ready to go.


Anyone else done this? foresee any troubles? The cut is from a '75.

It's been done before, measure twice, cut once. It is a BIG hole to fill, so cut ALOT of doner firewall out.

Are you going to just dead off your old a/c dash vents?

 

I had to do the same thing you are talking about when I installed my Cummins. The turbo and exhaust didn't play well with the Ford AC box.

I used seam sealer and rivets instead of welding. Make sure you get your firewall piece in properly so the heater box lines up and seals tight on the cold air intake on the kick panel. You will need the defrost ducting as well as the ac type duct won't line up properly with the heater box.

Subscribed, haven't done it but may in the future (have a decent AC cab that I may use for a non-AC project).

 

I've done this. Really quite easy. I glued mine in.

Non AC firewall sections are now on my list of items I torch off of carcasses ready for the scrapyard.

 

I really need to update that thread with my dimensions and a better description of what I did.

I should also plan to do a detailed description of what I eventually end up with in terms of installing a heater box in place of the A/C system.

These old trucks are cold enough... we need heat for Saskatchewan weather sometimes (even on random summer days).

 

Given enough money & time anything can be done!
Not on a 73-79 truck (81 F100) and not AC to Non-AC but Non-AC to AC.
Started with this non-AC fire wall.

The AC fire wall to go in

Non-AC fire wall cut out

AC fire wall clamped inplace

Welded in place

Primed & painted


Not the easy way but I wanted the factory look and why I did it that way.

I've done this too. I just wished I'd have had some new padding to put on the inside. I don't know if anyone sells the exact replacement but I'm sure you could find something close to use.
