Hot Shot Secret oil additive

A friend at work has been suggesting I try this Hot Shot Secret Stiction Eliminator in my 2012 F-250. From what I've heard ,it cleans out the injectors and restores performance of the engine. I'm sitting at 140K miles and I do notice some performance decrease. I'm down at least 1 MPG from where I sat for the first 100K miles and power is down a bit so I am considering this. The main concern I have it that this stuff is supposed to get rid of all the carbon build up and I've been told that a truck using HSS will begin smoking pretty bad as it cleans the engine out. Will I clog the DPF filter with all the debris from the engine if I use this? I don't want to risk a costly repair in an attempt to regain performance on an older truck.

It won't do any good, and it won't do any of what you've been told. Sorry, but everything you've been told that HHS will do isn't true at all for the 6.7L. Injectors on the 6.7L have nothing to do with the engine oil system, unlike the old 7.3L and 6.0L. Also you don't have carbon build up that is decreasing performance. That's hogwash.

If you're at 140K miles and have actual performance issues, nothing in a bottle will fix the problem you have. It has a real problem that needs to be diagnosed and repaired.

I think that your friend was thinking of a 6.0L. On a 6.4 and 6.7 the engine oil has nothing to do with injector firing... Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

The only place to put injector cleaner in a 6.7L is in the fuel tank.

Stiction Eliminators will make some improvement to your oil in any engine, however you won't see the same difference in performance as you would in a 6.0L

Regarding carbon build up, if you put any additive in the engine oil that cleans the crankcase it will not have any effect on your DPF. The first time you add a crankcase cleaner should be close to an oil change time so that if there is a lot of buildup that is removed the oil that is now full of floating garbage doesn't stay in the engine for too long. Once you have done the initial clean it should be safe to run a cleaning agent every few oil changes for the duration of the oil change.

This is the best of my understanding - others will confirm or correct I'm sure.

Thanks for the info. I don't have any real performance issues and my mechanic keeps a good eye on her, but I have noticed that the average MPG is down from 17.3 where is was for a long while to mid 16s. Now, maybe my driving habits have changed, but I don't think that much. That was the main reason for my question since I kept hearing that HSS cleaned the injectors. Now I know.

Quality fuel already has additives intended to clean injectors. In my opinion, there are only two additives you should consider adding to your fuel - a cetane booster and an anti-gel formula when the temperatures drop below freezing but the suppliers haven't yet got their winter formulation to the pumps.
I would never consider adding anything to the motor oil, period.

Is your mileage down year around, or just right now. winter blend has less energy, and mileage does drop.

I’ve used HSS in the oil and the fuel additive. I feel increased performance when I use the fuel additive
