95 F800 PTO light not coming on
Hi All,
I just bought a 1995 f800 with a dump bed. When I purchased it, the owner said the PTO was disconnected so his workers wouldn't mess with it. My question is, how do I hook it back up. There is a light on the control box but i doesn't come on, is there a switch somewhere to activate it? The truck is a 1995 Ford F800 with a 5.9l cummins and a six speed standard trans. I've tried searching but cannot come up with anything. Also, apparently the truck was broken into and stuff ripped out of the dash so maybe something is
missing?

That lever in the bottom of the photo that says Rogers on in is the dump control, beside it is another lever (no shown) that engages the pto, I see the "IN" on the sticker.
It's a air shift control and more likely he disconnected the air lines from the control or from the pto unit on the trans
What's missing from the dash is the radio and bezel that the warning indicator lights mount to.
I'd have to look at mine to tell you what each light represented but it's 8* F outside now and I won't be going near the truck till later today.

Thanks for the response, the levers are mechanical rather than air I assume because no air brakes. When I move the lever from in to out, the lever on the transmission does not move. However, when I move the control lever, the lever on the control box does move. I followed the cable from the in-out lever to the lever on the transmision and see no issues with it. The pto light still does not come on though, is there a switch somewhere i am missing or do i need to be in a certain gear for this to work? I see the wires from the light connecting to what looks like two separate sensors on the transmission. Could this be an electrical issue? Thanks in advance for all responses.

Cable operated instead of air, ok.
So when you move the control handle from out to in the lever on the pto doesn't move back, is that what your saying.
It's a cable control, moving the lever pulles the cable in or out which should move the lever back and forth, simple as that.
If moving the control lever doesn't move the cable, ether the cables disconnected at one end or it's broke
It appears to be connected at the pto, you have to pull the side plate from the tower if it has one,or unbolt the shifters from the tower and lift them up to inspect the cables and connections.
The white wire zip tied to the cable that's spliced to the black wire should go the a sensor switch on the pto unit, thats what turns the light on when the pto is in gear.

Ok, next thing I'd do is with the handle shifted to the in position, crawl under the truck and manually operate the pto shift lever to the rear (engine NOT running), this would be pushing the cable back into it's housing.
If the lever does shift back (several inches) start the truck, with the trans in natural release the clutch and look under the truck to see if the pto shaft is turning.

with handle shifted to "in" the shift lever will only move half way back. It also will not move back at all in "out" position. I tapped it with a mallet not super hard but it would only go back half way. Any ideas? I was just thinking now maybe i should rotate the shaft while trying to manually pull lever back. Any thoughts?
Thanks for the help, I really want to get this thing working.

Okay, I got it to work! By rotating the shaft back and forth i was able to manually move the lever on the tranny to the in position. The strange thing is, if it is "in" on the control box, it operates. The issue is that when I move it to the "out" position, it disengages but then if I move the lever back to "in," it does not re-engage unless I go under the truck and manually engage it. Might this be a cable adjustment issue?
Thanks for all the help Destroked 450!

Just a thought
The control handles have safety locks on them.
Not sure on those controls weather the lower part you grip with your finger lifts up or the top part of the handle squeezes down.
Have you been working the safety locks each time you've moved to handles.
If that doesn't help you've ether got a cable out of adjustment or need a new cable
