backup camera and extended warranty

Hello all. I intro'd in the intro thread, but will here as well. Hubby and I are in the process of purchasing a 2012 F250 with 82k miles on the 6.7l. It's a king ranch. We want to add navigation to it and so I spoke with Crutchfield and the recommended a Kenwood DNX574S, idatalink maestro ADS-MRR Interface Module, iDatalink HRN-RR-FO1 Factory, Dash Kit, Boyo VTL171RTJ backup camera.

Is there any way to use the original camera on the car? It has the backup camera in the rear view mirror but we were hoping to use it on the nav system? Has anyone integrated the ford backup cam into a new aftermarket system?

Also, extended warranty. I've heard good and bad. This truck has immaculate service records from the dealership with nothing major ever happening. Not saying it couldn't the second we take ownership, but how reliable are the 6.7 engines.

I have the same truck with Factory Nav and don't see any reason you can't use the original tailgate camera with the new system. The 6.7L had issues with valves in early 2011 but being a 2012 you are good on that. The turbos have ceramic bearings in 2011-2012 models and are said to be a weak link. I have 82K on my 2012 KR as well and haven't had any major problems other than folding mirror failures on both mirrors and at 1200+ apiece was glad to have the ESP.I have the Ford ESP to 125K or 3/19 and would recommend getting that if still available at 82K. Not sure what the cutoff is for adding that to your truck. JMHO. Love the truck!!!

There is a connector in the passenger kick panel that has the connections for the rear view camera. On the 2011 I had, I add the Sync 1 brick radio and wanted to move the camera view from the mirror to the ratio. I was able to obtain a special order cable to connect to the radio and connector in the kick panel. Try 4DTech. They might can make you a cable.

Here is the connector in the kick panel.
