which oil catch can/Separater for 2018 3.5 EB - JLT or UPR?

Greetings all,

Been searching around and haven't found an answer to the following...
Which oil separator is worth getting the JLT or UPR?

JLT:
https://www.americanmuscle.com/jlt-v...lack-1116.html
UPR:
2017-2018 F150 & Raptor 3.5L EcoBoost UPR Dual-Valve Oil Catch Can 5030-221

Oil Catch Can basics:

the JLT model is significantly cheaper at 139 vs the UPR at 400. Can anyone provide me with reasons to go with either?

I would go with the JTL. You don't need to spend much for what it does, and that's were I mounted my sons, I put clear hose on his, it works, yellow going in clear coming out. His has a window to see level about 1/2 inch of oil every 8000 miles 2012 3.5 ecoboost 85,000 miles running can last 60,000 miles

I've been using the UPR Dual Valve Oil Separator kit for over two years now on my 2.7 Gen.1
Works great.

Can't seem to find out any really good documentation on why you need a "catch can" ?
I have a 3.5 EB on an 2017 Expedition.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Depends on what school you went to, and who you listen too. On the GenII 3.5, they went to port injection, as well as direct, so the intake coking is supposed to be a thing of the past.
Catchcan won't hurt anything, but debatable if it helps anymore.

On edit; I just read where the 2.7 Ego also has port and direct injection. So, IMO, it's a toss up on that one as well.

What makes the UPR catch can so expensive at $400? I haven't seen where anyone has done a comparison of catch can brands. I'm also not much a proponent of drilling holes. How in the heck to you access the bottom of the catch can to empty it.

Here's a great video by a Ford Master Tech that explains the issue:
I have a '17 Expy as well and can't really swing the money needed for one of those kits (be aware that the YT video linked above is installing an RXP kit on an F-Series, not an Expedition). My Expy is different from an F-Series and UPR makes a kit for our trucks (not cheap).

There are various ways separate oil and water from the crankcase vapor. The better the separation, the more you pay for the can. Poor separation doesn't solve the issue. That's one of the reasons that the RXP and UPR kits are so expensive. You're paying for their expertise (and pending patents, in some cases). Also, the UPR kit has the option of adding factory ductwork. That way you can have your original parts in case you need to take the truck in for warranty service (and/or hate drilling holes). Most catch cans have a drain petcock on the bottom or screw off so they can be emptied. Some mitigation of the issue can be done with good oil and a fuel additive (see above linked video - the tech recommends Pennzoil Ultra 5W-30 synthetic oil and Chevon Techron fuel additive).
