Sorry to bother anyone with my utter lack of mechanical knowledge (im learning) .... but this is the first i went in for oil change only tp be turned away for the contraption in as my oil plug? Can anyone assist what
this might be??

 

It's a Fumoto valve.

The valve can be opened

1. without getting oil on your hands
2. without dropping the drain plug into the drain
3. to allow only a small amount to be drained for testing and then closed

 

They turned you away? I’d find somewhere else to get my oil changed. I do it myself and have Fumotos on both sides of the block, the radiator drain and oil pan.
