2010 F150. No Heat or Air Blowing

good morning,

last night a cold cold front moved into our area. This morning temps are into the 20’s. Driving my son to school this morning we of course had the heat blowing. A few minutes into the drive I pressed the button to turn the blower up and it stopped working all together. Each side read 90 and I could sill toggle temps up and down but no air blows. I tried the AC to see if that worked. Nothing. No air blowing.

It did this a few months ago as well, but the next time I went out and fired it up, everything worked again. My radio has done this a time or two as well. Just shuts off for a while. Seems something electrical back there? As simple as a fuse? Any help would be appreciated.

I just started it to see if maybe it was working again, like last time. Been a few hours. Nothing. I get no air blowing hot or cold at any speed, including the highest speed. Nothing. Any ideas?

I just finished replacing the blower motor. For a split second it worked and started to blow air and then quit on me again. I’m pretty novice when it comes to DIY stuff like this. What does this suggest to you more advanced guys?

Thanks for taking the time to respond brokenleg. My understanding is that if it was the resistor, it would blow when on hi. Mine is not blowing under any setting.

I’m going to change the cabin filter tomorrow and see if that cheap fix works. I’ll respond once I figure it out.

The DATC system does not use a blower resistor, it uses an electronic speed control module.

The problem, in this case, could be any of the following: Fuse F51 the BJB or F45 in the SJB, blower motor relay in the BJB, speed control module, DATC module, blower motor, connectors, wiring. The cabin air filter will not cause this issue, don't waste money assuming it might.

There's a reason for troubleshooting, it prevents wasting money caused by guessing.

ProjectSH089, many thanks for taking the time to respond and help. My challenge is, my knowledge and ability is limited. I won't bother with the cabin filter and will look for these specific fuses to start today.

You'd really need a scan tool that can access the HVAC module, a multi-meter, the circuit diagram, and the diagnostic procedure to troubleshoot effectively. Without the proper equipment and skills, you can check those fuses, see if the relay can be swapped with an identical one, and that's about it except for making guesses.

I’ve checked fuses, relays and replaced the blower motor. New blower motor worked for a quick moment and then nothing. Seems to be some sort of short. I’ve put the old blower back in and plan to take it to mechanic tomorrow. I don’t know how to find a short. I can hear the doors turning/opening/shutting when I change vents (window defrost, floor, face) so I know it’s not that. I can hear the compressor. Everything seems to work fine. Just no air being blown in any setting, hot or cold.

A "short" would cause either blown fuses or smoke. You have an "open".

The list above are your possible points of failure, the doors and compressor are not on the same circuits.

It seems the fact the new blower motor worked for a moment is telling, I just don't know what that means. Considering I can take parts back for a full refund like I am doing with the blower motor, is it worth replacing one or two more parts to see if that works before taking on the cost of a mechanic figuring it out for me? I can handle taking a part out and putting a new part in, but if it's electrical, that's going to fall above my pay grade.

Thanks again for your help.

Try the blower speed control module.

Update:

I ordered a new blower speed control module this morning, due to be here Monday. It was $45 through Amazon. $150 through Autozone.

In the meantime I watched a video on how to take the old one out and put the new one in for when it arrives. Easy as can be. I happened to read through some comments on the video and at one point, answering a question the mechanic stated to wiggle the connection point. If that turns everything back on, the connector needs to be replaced, not the module. I figured I would try that on mine and sure enough, a little wiggle at the connection point and everything fired right up.

So, my question now is, does anybody here know what connection piece I need to order? As well, whats the process of putting a new one on?

I found a video that has the part number and the "how to" with regard to replacing the connector for the blower speed control module.

Here it is for future reference for anybody else that runs into my problem.
