4.2L turbo?
#2
It would take some engineering. I've thought of it myself especially since getting a Sportage SX turbo - never drove a turbo before and its great. But, the 4.2L I have heard has a softer crankshaft, and with the fact that it's a pushrod engine, maybe its not the best idea. But I like the strategy on the KIA turbo, using a smaller turbine that spins up easier, providing boost all the time, not just at high RPM. That's how they make a 2.0L engine very sporty with loads of midrange torque. Sure, it runs out of air up at the redline, but in the ranges you normally drive in, the thing is a beast. If I could turbo the 4.2L, I would want two small units that were working all the time, because you don't want to have to push this engine over 5000 RPM in order to get boost. I think an increase of 75 to 100 HP would be plenty. Also it would be better with the auto trans.
I know I'll never do it but its nice to think about. I think it would be better in an old S10 with the 2.8L V6.
