Strange fluttering sound from air intake ?

Ive got a fluttering sound coming from the air cleaner box, it does increase in speed with an increase in rpm`s. Could this be a bad Idle air control valve?
The filter is pretty new.

Also, I had an oil change not too long ago and the oil is black and does not smell very good.

Hey, I was doing some reading on upgrades for these and ran across some folks talking about removing the baffel that is in the intake tube btw the filter housing and the intake. Maybe check to see if that has some how come loose??

I can't say it's something common, so I'd recommend to open it up and check up everything along with the filter. Perhaps fastening the clamps may resolve your issue.

No baffles in the plumbing on the pushrod motors

My 96 has no air box restrictor and a K&N filter, it too makes that noise, it's normal. Comes from having a dual bore throttle body............Stereo ! You ought to hear three two bbl carbs at WOT ! As for the black oil, does it smell like gasoline ? You might have some bad injectors dumping fuel. I'd pull the spark plugs to see if any are running black indicating a too rich mixture. If they are, then you need to address this asap before you gall some pistons from lack of oil lubrication, the excess fuel will wash the oil off the cylinder walls.

So the sound is normal,

The oil smells more burnt than gas. I checked it a couple times in the last 2 days and the level is slightly above where it sould be.
I had the plugs changed very recently and they all looked in very good condition, not black at all.

I do have a minor oil leak at the oil pan gasket and I had a leak at the pcv valve grommet but I just replaced the PCV valve and grommet with new (MC from dealer) ones and no more leak.

This may be or may not be related but About a month ago My oil gauge started to move up slightly when I hit the brakes then goes back down when I take my foot off the brakes, The other gauges act normally. I just had A new battery installed Saturday and it still does it just not nearly as obvious.

Sounds like electrical interference. I would change the oil and filter then check it daily to see if anything's happening in the oil. Check it only before you start the engine in the A.M.

Thats exactly what I was thinking of doing, changing it and keeping an eye on it.

Not sure about the oil gauge issue though, I might just change the sensor to see if that is the problem, because along with it moving a bit when I hit the brakes the pressure gauge is way lower than it usually is but I do have plenty of oil.

In case the problem will be in the oil sensor, you can look for it on our site: https://www.carid.com/1994-ford-e-series-parts/
