Buying a new diesel
My dad has a 2001 Dmax with the allison the truck has been nothing but trouble. This weekend the water pump went out for the second time in 2 months pulling our camper to a horse show. Needless to say between this the new trans he put in it all the new parts in that cheap interior hes done. Hes the most loyal chey man ive ever seen but now hes pissed. I need to know what is the best diesel out now. I don't care about who has the most power or ride we just need something that won't break. You pay 40 grand for a truck and it's a piece of ***** it kinda puts a bad taste in your mouth. Anyway hes thinking about a ford but well they don't have a great record either so tomarrow we are goin down and drive a da da da dodge o god what has this world come to. Im not trying to start a war I just want a good truck!

I think Ford's got their problems under control. I can only speak from experience. My 2003 was built in May 03 and has been flawless so far. It has been a real joy to drive and has power unlike any other truck I've ever owned. I'm not towing anything right now and my last tank got 19.8 mpg. If I stay in town, it drops to around 17.8. The 100000 mile war. helped my decision.

Yeah I heard that if you get one built after such date ? they don't have the problems. I just don't want my dad to get another peice of junk truck like the chey hes got now. Ill tell him about the after ? build date and see what he says. If we got one it would be an 04 have they fixed ALL the problems with that one or do you know? And I know this is a ford forum but what better place to ask how the new cummins diesel is doing engine and tranny?
