eldelbrock 1406 tunning recs.

i am installing a fresh rebuilt 390 into a f350 crewcab and would like to know if i should re-jet, re-spring or re do anything to this carb. I am running at elevation of 5400 and it is an automatic. I have limited time to do carb trials and just want to hear how others are set up.

thanks,
shawn

Hi Shawn,

I'm running a #1407 on my 460. I've changed the setup many times for cam, head changes. You should be close but final tuning will be metering rods. The best method is with an O2 sensor. I had tuned mine with plug reads and when bolted to a dyno and the O2 sensor plugged in I saw I was to lean on the primary and to rich on the secondary. A couple quick changes and the A/F ratio was flat and the truck ran great (and easier on gas). It's a fast way to tune if you have access.
