Preferred gauges and mounting location

I am thinking of doing the A pillar pod from RiffRaff that comes with Pyrometer, trans temp and boost, I am also doing the f650 dash panel 3 switch with hydra. The 650 part comes with 2 gauge holes.

Is it possible or smart to monitor EGT pre and post turbo? Where/how would I mount the sensors? Other option is to skip the A pillar pod entirely and just do EGT and trans temp in the 650 panel. This isn't going to be a race truck. I will use it to tow my jeep to the trail and camp in the back.

What gauges do you all monitor, where did you mount them.

I use Forscan and my iPhone. ( others like Torque Pro ) Not only can You monitor any function of the vehicle as needed but you also get DTC code reading and clearing and even run service functions.

The only functions your truck doesn’t monitor is EGT and fuel pressure, so if you are going to add to the info available then that is what I would add.

Tap into the pre or post filter test port of your fuel bowl.

I have been using Glow Shift gauges in my trucks for over 10 years. Been very happy with them. Have a triple A pillar in my Ram along with a quad mount over the mirror. In my F250 and 350 I had triple A pillar mounts. My '04 Ex has a quad A pillar with EGT, Trans Temp, Fuel Pressure and boost. In addition, I use a ScanGaugeII for everything else.

ArmyLifer you and I have very similar taste. I am going to do the same gauges and brake controller. DId you order a blank 650 dash and do all the holes yourself or did you order it pre cut.

I ordered the blank F650 dash and cut my own holes. It came with three smallish holes already in it which dictated where I ended up putting my gages and switches.

Blank F650 dash.

After holes were cut, before paint.

I ordered mine from an online Ford parts place. Part # 4C4Z-7004302-HA. There are two F650 dash versions, one for automatic and one for manual transmissions. I can’t remember which one this is.

When I had my 7.3 powered truck, I had the door post pod with boost, trans temp, and EGT. For me, the boost gauge was kinda cool but really just eye candy. I mounted my EGT sensor in the top of the exhaust manifold on the drivers side, rear cylinder. Trans temp and EGT would by my top priorities...especially if the tuning wasn't stock. I always thought it'd be cool to have an HPOP gauge but the Torque app can monitor that for a fraction of the cost.

Got mine from there too. I have the auto version and had Clay do the panel.

I wanted to keep my grab handle so went the overhead pod route along with the 650 lower dash.

My fuel pressure is post filter so I see what my injectors see.

Some day I'll wire up the switches...some day.

I wanna keep the whoa nelly handle too. I like your set up.

Question Kinda curious if you see much variation in the EGT's from each bank?

Thanks. The overhead pod is definitely trickier than the pillar pod. I was concerned about the EGT wires as you can't just connect more to extend the sensor line. Fortunately they reached but the driver's side gage (middle) got routed through the driver's side knockout near the pedals (I don't have a clutch) and the passenger's side gage (right) had to be routed through the passenger's side of the firewall for them to reach.

My '03 has the vacuum operated MAX A/C valve in the heater hose from the factory. Since I was removing it I pulled the vacuum line out and used that pass-through in the firewall to fit the sensor wiring through, then RTV'd it to seal any gaps in the opening. I pulled the grab handles off and routed the lines through there into the overhead and over to the pod.

At idle no. They are nearly identical. As the temps climb I get to about a difference of 50F between the two sides at about 1000F EGT.

Nothing seems off or imbalanced so I consider that my baseline.
