4wd stopped working today. Manually locked hubs still no. If the vacuum line going to the 4x4 out of the reservoir doesn’t kick the pump on when separated and 4x4 is on with key on, does that mean bad switch?
If you manually locked the hubs and you still don't have 4wd you most likely have a problem with the transfer case. Unless you have a hub that is completely broken.
The vacuum system only locks the hub, so if you did that manually it wouldn't matter if the vacuum system was working at all.
Don't just start throwing parts at it or it can and will get expensive.
Start at Pin Point test J3 on page 308-07A-41
That is in the first PDF in the group. You are going to need a DMM
to do the tests that don't require a scan tool.
If no 4wd with manually locking the hubs, you have a mechanical problem.
You can take the lockers out without pulling the wheels. The seals may have allowed water to get in and they may need to be lubed up a bit.
DieseltechRon (rip) has some good videos on YouTube on the subject.
Good luck.
No codes on my SCT or torque pro. I guess I try to replace shift motor or take it to somebody with a better code reader?
They're generally just basic (inferior). I have over 40 OEM and aftermarket code readers and waste more money on these than I can count.
In all likelihood you won't be happy with purchasing --- try finding someone with a FORD IDS / VCM or a Snap-On, the Pro Innova's aren't half bad either. I have the top of the line Autel and it's a little flaky in this area also (not recommended)
There is a Forscan app, $5, get an OBD2 WiFi adapter $25. Use your Ipad or iPhone.
It will find most codes. My sons F350 was having issues, codes showed transfer case related problems. Worked thru them, all good now.
